Protective hosts second Ronald McDonald House Charities Service Week

Protective hosted its second Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Service Week July 17-21, 2023. Teammates had the opportunity to participate in activities to support RMHC across three core sites in Birmingham, the Greater Cincinnati area, St. Louis and our distributed workforce. Throughout the week, wish list donations were dropped off by core site teammates and delivered via Amazon from virtual teammates.

Protective and Ronald McDonald House Charities

RMHC provides a safe, affordable, supportive home-away-from-home for sick or injured children and their families when they travel for medical treatment. RMHC has house programs in all of Protective's core site locations: Birmingham, St. Louis and Cincinnati, which is the largest RMHC in the world, serving up to 177 families each night.

Protective has a longstanding relationship with RMHC, with teammates serving dinners and supporting RMHC events throughout the year.

“What surprised me most about serving a meal at the Ronald McDonald House is how much love and care was put into these meals. It’s wonderful that they don’t have to worry about how to feed their family while focusing on their ill child,” says Tiffany Becker, Sr. Specialist in Protective’s Annuity Contact Center. “Also, it was a great experience to share a meal with my co-workers! I’m so proud of what Protective is doing in our communities.”

RMHC Service Week activities

During Protective’s RMHC Service Week, Birmingham Protectors helped more than 200 individuals through writing cards of encouragement, donating items and cooking and serving dinner at the Ronald McDonald House of Alabama. After serving dinner, the night concluded by playing a fun game of bingo with families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Cincinnati Protectors assembled 80 butterfly activity kits, signed a poster, collected donations and prepared and served 510 meals for the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Cincinnati.

St. Louis Protectors assembled 50 butterfly activity kits, collected donations and were able to decorate, cook and serve dinner at both the West Pine and Park Avenue Ronald McDonald House locations. St. Louis teammates served and cooked meals for a combined 96 people.

Virtual teammates played a crucial role in the success of this year's RMHC Service Week by donating much-needed items and volunteering at their local Ronald McDonald Houses.

Syracuse Protectors came together to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York during their 2023 Christmas in July drop off event. Denver Protectors supported the Denver Ronald McDonald House by preparing and serving breakfast for 219 people. Elgin Protectors provided Amazon donations for Ronald McDonald House in downtown Chicago.
