Protective recognized by EPA for leading green power

Protective was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a Green Power Partner for their Birmingham headquarters in 2022. This recognition follows Protective’s announcement in the Summer of 2021 of the collaboration with Alabama Power to operate its Birmingham headquarters with 100% renewable energy.

The Green Power Partnership is a partnership program that helps increase green power use among U.S. organizations to advance the American market for green power and the development of those sources as a way to reduce air pollution and other environmental impacts associated with electricity use.

Protective Stadium launches one of the state’s first NFT

Through collaboration with the BJCC, Protective launched one of the state’s first-ever NFTs (non-fungible token) with the proceeds benefiting Prosper, a coalition of community, civic and business leaders committed to creating a more vibrant, racially and gender-inclusive economy. The 10-day auction raised money and the winning bidder won two tickets to every 2022 Protective Stadium event.

Birmingham welcomes The World Games 2022

Protective was a proud sponsor of The World Games 2022 in Birmingham. Even before the event, we saw a unique opportunity to share the experience with local high school students interested in learning about how an event like The World Games comes together and gaining insights for their future careers.

During the Inaugural Leadership Academy at Protective Stadium, high school students from Breakthrough Birmingham and other organizations heard from leaders, Mayor Randall Woodfin, The World Games 2022 CEO Nick Sellers, Protective Executive Vice President Scott Adams and others on topics like broadcasting, economic development, community relations and more.

On July 7, Protective Stadium hosted The World Games 2022 Opening Ceremony. Following the 10 days of competitions, including drone racing at the stadium, athletes, volunteers and fans were welcomed back for the closing ceremony at Protective Stadium, which featured a performance by Alabama native and four-time Grammy winner Lionel Richie.

One year at Protective Stadium

October 2022 marked one year since Protective Stadium opened its doors. Over the course of 2022, the stadium welcomed in new sports teams — Legion FC, Birmingham's professional soccer team, and the USFL, an American professional football league featuring eight teams.

The stadium also hosted its first concert with country music legend, Garth Brooks, and in July welcomed 3,600 athletes from over 100 countries to Birmingham for The World Games 2022. In October, children from local organizations and the five neighborhoods surrounding the stadium were invited to Trick or Treat in the Suites where they enjoyed playing games, collecting candy, and showing off their costumes.

Giving back to our communities

Protective teammates from our core sites and virtual workforce spent time in 2022 giving back and serving their communities in a variety of ways, including monthly visits to read to area elementary students, contributing to clothing drives for local shelters, and more.

For the first time, virtual and core site employees across all Protective core site locations served together for the Ronald McDonald House Charities Week of Service, August 1-5. From decorating banners and balloons to preparing meals and playing games with families, employees left an impact in their local communities across the country.

In September, Protective teammates served at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama as part of our United Way campaign. The team packed 1,923 mobile pantry boxes that provided families with 7,692 meals.

As part of our ongoing efforts through Protecting Good, which launched in 2021 to provide support to the neighborhoods surrounding Protective Stadium, Protective team members participated in four neighborhood cleanup days.

A collaborative effort with the City of Birmingham and the State Department of Insurance, Protecting Good has also provided 61 homes with new roofs, with more to come.

Thank you for looking back at 2022 with us. We are excited for 2023 as we continue to deliver on our promises and do more for the customers and communities we serve.
